As I work on a new art deco design piece and jewelry, I’m struck by the ebb and flow of re-emerging patterns. Why do styles come and go, and what does the art deco period offer to us in the mid 2020s?
Turns out, it’s a timeless theme that converges with current contexts.
The art deco style announces itself with clarity: I am bold. I am distinct. I have boundaries. I thrive in contrasts: bright and dark, vertical and horizontal, round and square. I like colors, but they must exude luxury.
Timeless tropes can be found across all four of my focused themes. As I embark on these blog posts, I’m going to explore and share themes across multiple disciplines to go deep and wide. Jewelry touches many domains of knowing: cultural, economic, philosophical, psychological, archeological, and spiritual, to name just a few areas I’ll explore. Forget rabbit holes – let’s get multi-dimensional!
I’ve spent the past 20 years exploring vintage jewelry, and kindled a passion, love, connection, and collection of art deco, art nouveau, folk art, and “other realms” jewelry. I’m excited to keep learning about these themes and share what I find. Stay tuned for blog posts, multi-media, and other creations that explores these timeless tropes from a variety of angles.
