Ultra Rare Vintage Jomaz Flying Butterfly Carnival Glass Brooch

This ultra rare signed Jomaz carnival glass flying bug brooch is one of my favorites. Unlike any figural bug brooch I’ve ever seen, this aurora borealis winged insect looks like it’s from another dimension. Other pins from this designer of this era are gold plated, and are listed at $350 or more. I note there’s some wear to the back side gold plating and a tiny blemish on one of the carnival glass wings. But I’m super picky and these are not visible when wearing.

Jomaz was a well-known costume jewelry brand founded by Joseph Mazer in the mid-20th century. The brand is known for high-quality craftsmanship, elegant designs, and luxurious appearance, often resembling fine jewelry. Before founding Jomaz, Joseph Mazer co-founded Mazer Brothers, a respected costume jewelry company, with his brother Louis in the 1920s. In the late 1940s, Joseph Mazer left Mazer Brothers to start his own company, Joseph Mazer & Co., which later became known as Jomaz.

I’ve always loved other worlds. My first TV memory is the original Star Trek, and I loved watching Captain James Tiberius Kirk navigate to new lands. Since then, science fiction, the paranormal, supernatural, and other realms have always intrigued me.

I teach college courses on the subject, and it’s no surprise to me that my passion for vintage jewelry treads into this area, too.
